Welcome to the official page for Battle of the Books 2020! This is a school-wide event for all East students in which teams of (no more than) 5 students read 20 pre-selected books and compete against each other in a tournament-style quiz bowl.

Here's how it works:

1. Students interested in participating will need to read at least 2 of the 20 books from the official Battle of the Books book list and fill out the participation form on each title read (see the form below) by Friday, January 17th.
2. All students who meet that requirement will attend a formal meeting on Friday, January 24th to choose teams of 4-5 members.
3. Each team will be responsible for reading all 20 titles on the Battle of the Books book list (listed below). It would be a good idea to divide the titles evenly among team members, but you may also want to have some overlap so that more than one person has read each book!
4. All teams will compete in a school-wide competition on a date TBD in late April or early May.
5. The winning team of the school-wide competition will represent East MS against 29 other middle schools in the district-wide Battle of the Books competition on Thursday, May 14, at the Main branch of the Nashville Public Library. This team will be provided transportation to and from the library, breakfast, lunch, and the chance to win a trophy, a limousine ride back to school (with a dessert stop), and city-wide bragging rights.

** Our library has five copies of each of these titles. Once teams have been chosen, ONLY students participating in Battle of the Books may check out these titles.
